Where employers are short
- Awareness of green skills and green job pathways
The North Wales RSP says focus is needed on raising awareness of green skills and green job routes, so people understand the opportunities from net zero.
- Retrofit and low carbon construction skills
Demand for retrofit, energy efficiency and heat pump skills is rising, with current training provision struggling to keep pace (North Wales RSP, 2026).
- Welsh language skills in the workplace
Welsh is one of the top five future skills North Wales employers need. Many struggle to recruit staff with enough Welsh, most of all in the North-East.
- Inclusive recruitment and retention
43% of working-age disabled people in Wales are economically inactive. The RSP wants more employers using inclusive, adaptable workplace practices.
- Diverse talent in energy and construction
Women are significantly under-represented in engineering and construction apprenticeships in North Wales, and the region wants better gender balance.

How Lliw works
Inclusion
A career for every mind. Every pack shows the full range of routes in: hands-on, technical, creative, quiet, loud. Students who have been told they don't fit see exactly where they do. Every pack includes an inclusive language and engagement guide for the employer.
Neurodiversity
Neurodiverse-friendly by design. No harsh pure-white slides. High contrast, soft cream backgrounds, short paragraphs, key phrases in bold. Pairs work and no cold-calling. One version for everyone, so nobody is singled out.
Green skills
Threaded through, not bolted on. Every pack links its sector to Wales's net zero target for 2050: retrofit in construction, clean power, greener factories, nature on farms. Lliw's green path is a slide in every Byd.
Bilingual
Welsh and English, equal weight. Professionally translated, not machine translated. Welsh-medium and bilingual schools are included from day one, so every student meets the owls in the language they learn in.

- Screen readers
Software like NVDA and VoiceOver reads screens aloud. Accessibility testers check that websites and apps work with them.
- Accessible design (WCAG)
Designers follow WCAG rules: clear layouts, good contrast, captions. Good for neurodivergent and disabled users, and everyone.
- EPC software (RdSAP)
Domestic energy assessors survey a home, enter data into RdSAP software and produce its Energy Performance Certificate.

Welsh spelling and grammar checker from Bangor University. Translators and bilingual workers use tools like this every day.

Apprenticeship
Start from 16 in 23 sectors at 4 levels. At Tŷ Gwyrddfai in Penygroes, Adra and Grŵp Llandrillo Menai train people in solar, heat pumps and insulation.
College
Coleg Cambria Llysfasi runs a Level 2 Countryside and Environment diploma. Over 19? Free PLA courses at GLLM include heat pumps, solar PV and energy assessing.
University Degree
Bangor University offers Environmental Conservation. Wrexham University offers Occupational Therapy and Renewable and Sustainable Engineering.
Higher / Degree Apprenticeship
Earn a degree while you work: Bangor University with Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, and Wrexham University with Coleg Cambria, in digital, engineering and construction.
